Description
On auction, we have two vintage photographs by Reva Brooks. They are titled in her handwriting on the backs "Tannery Ruins Across from Stirling Dickinson's San Miguel de Allende 1949" with her personal stamp. These 8" X 10" photos are, I believe, gelatin silver. They have a matte finish and very, very clear detail.About the artist: Reva Brooks (1913-2004) was a Canadian photographer who did most of her work in and around San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. There, she taught art in the local colony along with her husband and Stirling Dickinson (mentioned in tile of pictures). Along with her many international awards and exhibitions, she co-authored a biography. "Artists In Exile in San Miguel de Allende" was written with her husband Leonard. It is the true tale of deportations, shootouts, murder attempts, failures and triumphs of this creative couple caught up in interesting times.
I believe these are in excellent condition. The photos are clean and clear with excellent detail. They have pin holes in the corners from where they might once have been displayed. One has a tiny chip on the lower right corner. As I am not an expert on photography, please see my photographs for more description.
This is from my friend who collects everything and is starting to part with some of treasures.
I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping when possible.
